Outreach Programs

Local Outreach Programs:

Canta Arya has participated in fundraising events such as Voices for Africa, Empty Bowls for Martha’s Table, and the Kingston Symphony House Tour concerts. Our past outreach has included performances at St. Mary’s by the Lake, Extendicare,  the Kingston General Hospital and at various public schools.

The Providence Manor Collaboration:

The Providence Manor/Canta Arya School for Strings partnership began initially over a decade ago with a few concerts annually in the Manor Auditorium and today is Canta Arya’s principle Outreach project  in the Kingston community. The intergenerational activities today include Impromptu Concerts, a Music-Mate Collaboration for those especially vulnerable to social isolation, bi-Monthly Couples Dinners, recitals, and summer lessons taught in the home. The program has also expanded to include musical evenings on Montreal 5 for those residents with advanced dementia or Alzheimer’s. This partnership has continued through the unusual circumstances of the Covid-19 pandemic, with Canta Arya students performing in socially-distanced courtyard concerts for Providence Manor staff and residents.

In December 2019, Manor residents and staff were guests at Canta Arya’ annual Twilight Concert of Carols & Classics held at Chalmers United Church.  The mutual joy and friendship shared between residents, students, and audience members during this performance marked yet another important moment in our Collaboration and set a precedent for being able to involve residents in a unique community activity outside of their care facility.

The Canta Arya/ Providence Manor documentary ‘Resonance:  Music Across the Ages’ is scheduled for release March 15.

Canta Arya’s Global Outreach:

For the past 17 years, Canta Arya families have donated violins, bows, rosin, books, and other materials to the Suzuki music projects in South Africa and Zimbabwe. Canta Arya’s support of the on-going teacher training courses has inspired other studios and families from Paris to Boston, to Quebec City and Barrie, to donate materials and funds for this endeavour which brings the joy of music to the lives of hundreds of disadvantaged children in the process.

This ongoing participation in both global and local initiatives has enriched and broadened the perspectives of generations of Canta Arya students and their families.
